Dear Diary...A letter to self!

Image
On the 27th March 2020 South Africa entered into a historic 21 day lockdown. For many this signaled an opportunity to switch off and dial into things they never had time for. For the active, this meant coming up with alternative solutions to maintaining their active lifestyles while confined to one location. As the days went on by, discomfort set in. For parents, the  mammoth  task of juggling work and 5th grade Math proved to be a bit too much. And as Lockdwon was extended, people started to feel an intense type of cabin fever. Livelihoods were threatened and it became a mental warfare to accept that we were being held captive by an invisible enemy. The time within your own thoughts took many down an uncomfortable road littered with thoughts and emotions left unaddressed, closets filled with dreams unrealized, choices made in haste and yet to be confronted truths. We are now in what has been termed level 4 of a 5 fold lockdown plan - when we take a count, we have of

Nivea Men Deep Espresso review: Coffee anyone?

Image
When I heard that Nivea had turned coffee into a deodorant I was intrigued! What would coffee smell like on a person? I love my cup of coffee and I cannot function properly without getting my day started on one, but would I enjoy the smell of it on my man? That is a question I was more than eager to answer hence I took on the challenge to have my guy test the new Nivea deep espresso deodorant. The results have been phenomenal! Much like a good cup of coffee, the scent is very distinct and surprisingly addictive. It lingers in the room for a while after application and this staying power is evident on his skin as well. I enjoy it’s freshness and have quite liked how it keeps him smelling fresh throughout the day. This has become his gym bag essential as he uses it frequently to freshen up in the shower after a good workout or a run on the open road. Its versatility appeals to me as well and I find that I wouldn’t mind it on our teenage son or my uncles and even my dad. The produc

Pond's Age Miracle Serum Review

Image
Hey darlings! Anyone who knows me knows that I am absolutely obsessed with my skin and therefore I have been pretty adventurous in the past with trying out different products that promised to give me the solution to my skin concerns. Unfortunately I have had some not so pleasant experiences with some products, landing up in hospital on the day of my brother in law's wedding with a severely swollen face after I had tried out a serum for the first time. This was the second reaction I had to a beauty product in just under a year, the first one being less dramatic and only leaving me with a harsh rash that dried out and left me with the most horrendous peeling effect. My sensitive skin has certainly taught me to be a lot more cautious with products and therefore when I signed up to test and review the Pond's Age Miracle Serum I was anxious about how my skin would respond. I decided to give it a go as I had used Pond's products in the past, particularly as a teenager when

Nivea skin care campaign πŸ’š

Image
A week ago I was selected to be a part of the amazing campaign to put the brand new Nivea aloe and hydration body lotion to the test.  Today is exactly a week later and I must admit I have enjoyed every moment of giving my skin some much needed attention in these harsh winter conditions. Making this body lotion a part of my daily skincare routine has been so easy, not only does it smell fantastic, but it is fast absorbing and non greasy, making getting ready in the mornings a breeze. My skin often reacts badly to winter and I’ve struggled to get a product that keeps it hydrated throughout the day and helps me avoid that ashy effect that keeps me reaching out for lotion on a regular basis. This past week, I’ve literally applied lotion once in the morning and I have stayed confidently hydrated until the evening when I take my shower before bedtime. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed using this product and if you, like myself have had a struggle with dry skin, go on and put it to the test. I I h

Corporate Bullies. It’s time to fight back!

Image
Bully Bosses! It’s time to fight back.  Leader - defined by the dictionary to be the person who leads or mentors a group, organization, or country to achieve set objectives. Manager - a person responsible for controlling or administering an organization or group of staff. Notice how a manager is defined to be a person who controls as opposed to leading a group of people. I, for one am more inclined to believe that this is the core reason why so many organizations are currently struggling with the stigma of appointing poor leaders. Businesses are not looking for good leadership but instead appoint people who seek to control their teams and expect to achieve success. It is fundamentally incorrect to call any person responsible for a team a “manager “ because in order to get the best out of people you have got to showcase competency in understanding the human mind and how to mentor and develop your team to achieve. It goes without saying that integrity and respect are tra

I am Womandla - the slogan T-shirt takeover.

Image
The trend of slogan t-shirts has taken over and the creativity is exceptional. From the famous “Sebenza Girl” to the latest “Ungenaphi? - an African Proverb”. Now while I can confess to being a fashion enthusiast, I have learned to be cautious when wearing statement shirts simply because I am a mother and carry the responsibility of being a positive role model in all my choices. It is worth noting that I have grown quite fond of some of the slogans particularly those that empower woman and encourage the female gender to stand up and claim their thrones! One of my favorites is The future is female and I loved that these came in kiddies sizes as well. My daughter who dreams of becoming a Pilot wears it proudly because it is a constant reminder of what she one day hopes to accomplish in what she has perceived to be a male dominated industry. Another favorite is the Sebenza Girl slogan, as a woman in the corporate world, it serves as a reminder that I have had to push boundaries, work
